The second development, The Siding at 84 Rutland Ave, is a continuation of the Green Swing’s journey. Having set a precedent with Genesis, the team applied the lessons learnt and further improved the design.
The Siding consists of two townhouses and five apartments, none of which are the same, offering real variety of dwellings.
Innovative design elements include the use of roof spaces to create bedrooms and outdoor areas and a dual key apartment.
In addition to your own private courtyard, the residents share outdoor spaces including productive gardens. There is also common bicycle storage.
Each dwelling has solar PV, hot water and energy monitoring, and is provided with one parking bay which is fitted with a 15AMP power outlet for charging electric bikes and vehicles.
As for Genesis, Life Cycle Design analysis was used to assess the sustainability impact of the whole of the development, showing an 80% saving in carbon emissions.
An urban orchard was the vision for the road reserve next to The Siding and is now growing with the support and help of the Town of Victoria Park, Victoria Park Community Garden Association, neighbours and community members.
Both Genesis & The Siding have become real examples of high quality, sustainable developments that encourages a sense of community and have won multiple awards.
