Construction at 5 Montgomery Street in Beaconsfield commenced in June 2021. Completion is estimated around the end of 2022. The project is a mini-cohousing community consisting of four townhouses and a common house.
Obtaining planning approval from the City of Fremantle proved to be surprisingly difficult and caused significant delays. We believe the project is a great example of what can be achieved under the ‘Fremantle Alternative’ Local Planning Scheme and expected strong support for the proposed plans. Much to our surprise and disappointment this turned out not to be the case. The participatory process, involving future owners and residents in the design and development process, made all the difference. They put in significant effort to get approval for building their dream homes and community.
Then COVID hit resulting in material and labour shortages causing further delays. It is a difficult climate, and our builder, Right Homes, is doing a fabulous job to keep things moving.
We are simply happy construction is progressing and very much enjoy this part of the project where you are no longer dependent on an uncertain and unpredictable political process and can see the plans being brought to life.
We believe this small cohousing community will be something special, offering a great lifestyle for future owners and residents.
