Swisswood

Swisswood produce quality timber products (like windows, door, etc). Besides making some doors/frames for us, they will help us find the right way to place the imported windows from The Netherlands.

Strawtegic Concepts

We are glad we got in touch with Dave Morris from "Strawtegic Concepts". The hand rendering of straw bale walls used to be the most labour intensive part, but Dave has a render pump which will make our lives a whole lot easier. He also knows a lot about straw bale building and will be an invaluable source of information.

eTool

We have used eTool's LCA software to assess the CO2 emissions from our project. The results and recommendations have been useful to further reduce the embodied energy and thus reduce our environmental footprint. We got our assessment done, but you can also use the software free of charge.

Douma Timmerfabriek

Douma Timmerfabriek ("Carpentry factory") is a Dutch company, who will provide us with the window frames (incl. double glazing). We are currently in the process of getting a sample window shipped over to have a good look at how to put these in the insulated walls.

Allan Fowler

Allan & Susan Fowler, farmers near Northam, supply us with the strawbales. We worked with the strawbales at Christian & Deepti's "Wision CD House" project and were impressed with the quality. Allan & Susan have been very patient with our slow progress, but in the end the timing of the harvest of new bales in early 2012 and the stacking of the bales for our walls seem to line up perfectly.

Active Minerals is one of 2 suppliers in the world of attapulgite. It improves the earth render in many ways: makes it more sticky and gives a harder render. It is a natural product.
